Abstract: The Community Learning Centre for Healthy Living, at George Brown College, Toronto, supports interprofessional student learning, practice and research activities related to health promotion. Students of several professions collaborate in planning, designing, delivering and evaluating community needs assessments and health promotion educational materials and programs to various target populations. This presentation reports on an innovative interprofessional education initiative which responds to two realities in health care: the increased focus on health promotion within today’s health care system and the ongoing need for appropriate student clinical placement opportunities which support interprofessional education. To that end, we will demonstrate how health promotion can be effectively utilized as a context for interprofessional student collaboration in an actual practice setting. We will address key structural and planning challenges and issues related to: developing the Health Promotion Student Placement Contract; logistics and scheduling of students from different programs; preparation of interprofessional supervision and preceptorship; responding to differing professional program requirements while providing innovative IPE participation and leadership credits; developing an orientation which places all students, regardless of profession and experience, on the same page; providing the resources which encourage and support interprofessional student collaboration; and our approach to IPE program evaluation.
